Based in East London, Gina Marris is a Mixed Media Textiles Designer who specialises in Macramé manipulations – combining an array of knots to produce constructed textiles & decorative functional objects. Graduating in 2010, her first collection includes spiral pot-hangers made up of a total of over seven hundred individually hand-tied knots.

Working with soft, natural materials – flashes of colour are used sparingly, often to enhance or highlight the hidden structure within.

Western Macramé is believed to have originated with thirteenth century Arabian weavers, who would knot the excess threads on the edges of textiles & clothing. The word itself comes from the Arabic ‘Migramah’– meaning ‘fringe’.
